Credits and data sources

Last updated 6 September 2026. HuntPulse is built on public data and open-source software. This page names all of it — partly because the licences require it, and partly because you should be able to check where a number came from before you plan a morning around it.

Weather and climate

Open-Meteo — the forecast itself, the historical hours behind every pressure and temperature trend, seasonal normals from the ERA5 archive, and point elevation. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com. (CC BY 4.0)

Maps, terrain and boundaries

Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics — the satellite imagery basemap. (Esri terms of use)
USGS The National Map — the topographic and hydrography basemaps. (public domain)
USGS PAD-US — public-land boundaries, ownership and the unit names shown in the directory. Approximate — see the terms for why a point inside a boundary is not permission to hunt. (public domain)
BLM CadNSDI (PLSS) — the township, range and section grid. (public domain)
Mapzen / AWS Terrain Tiles — the elevation tiles behind hillshade relief. Built from SRTM, USGS 3DEP, ETOPO1 and national datasets, each under its own terms. (open data, mixed sources)

State and county parcel services — optional parcel-boundary suggestions, queried only when you ask for one. Coverage is patchy and nothing in the product depends on it. (each service's own terms)

Map data is not a survey. Every boundary on this site — parcel, public land, section grid — is a cartographic approximation from a third party. None of it establishes a property line, and none of it tells you where you may legally hunt or shoot.

Research the scoring draws on

The weights are not folklore, and where the research contradicts hunting lore we follow the research — which is why moon variables are computed precisely and then weighted lightly. Findings are used as facts, which carry no copyright, but the work deserves the credit:

GPS-collar work on white-tailed deer movement and weather, which finds temperature the most consistent weather driver and all weather secondary to the animal’s daily rhythm.
Mississippi State University research on environmental and lunar influences on deer movement — the basis for computing the moon properly and trusting it lightly.
US Forest Service work in western Montana on weather, winter severity and snowfall as the dominant influences on elk distribution during the hunting season.
Published work on turkey gobbling activity relative to sunrise, wind and rain.

HuntPulse is not endorsed by, affiliated with or reviewed by any of these institutions, nor by any agency, provider or trademark holder named on this page. Product and service names are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used here only to identify the source of data.

Reporting a security problem

If you find a vulnerability, email info@huntpulse.club with enough detail to reproduce it, and give us a reasonable chance to fix it before saying anything publicly. We will not pursue a good-faith researcher who reports privately, stays within their own account, avoids other people’s locations, does not degrade the service and does not exfiltrate data. There is no bounty programme; there is genuine gratitude.

Please do not test rate limits, denial of service, or anything against the upstream data providers listed above — they did not sign up for it. See also the acceptable-use section of the terms.
